Ever since then it has shown excellent performance in biometrics studies, in terms of speed and discriminant performance. In its simplest form, an LBP description of a pixel is created by threshold the values of the 3 × 3 neighborhood of the pixel against the central pixel and interpreting the result as a binary number [8]. The basic idea of this approach is demonstrated in Fig 1.
